Chris Sweet – Senior Fantasy Analyst: The Wagner Wire
Week 5 is in the books so here are 70-1 things I took away from it.
- Ben Roethlisberger is playing like he did retire after last year.
- The only Steelers players you can start right now are Antonio Brown and Le’veon Bell.
- Joe Mixon is getting the carries now but his 2.8 ypc needs to improve if he is going to break out.
- The Bengals offense is starting to look better.
- AJ Green is the Elite WR nobody talks about. He is on pace for over 1600 yards receiving.
- Joe Flacco shouldn’t be owned in many fantasy leagues.
- It’s hard to trust any Ravens WR on any given week.
- Buck Allen is quietly putting together an RB2 season.
- Duke Johnson has gone for more than 20 points in a ppr each of the last 3 weeks.
- He isn’t getting a lot of yards but David Njoku has 3 TDs in 5 games this season.
- Davante Adams is the clear 2nd option in Green Bay. He’s on pace to repeat his 12 TDs from last year.
- Aaron Jones getting more carries could be a good thing for Ty Montgomery owners.
- Mitch Trubisky didn’t ignite the Bears passing attack. To be fair, he might have had better receivers at Chapel Hill.
- Jordan Howard has regained his hold on the RB snaps in Chicago.
- Ameer Abdullah is still not an every week starter. He probably never will be.
- Marvin Jones saw as many targets as Golden Tate in Week 5.
- Jerick McKinnon proved that he deserves the Gray Duck’s share of the carries in Minnesota on Monday Night.
- Shady McCoy has been getting the volume but the results just haven’t been there.
- With Charles Clay going down there really isn’t a Buffalo pass catcher that should be owned right now. Zay Jones might be eventually but he’ll have to do better than 1 for 9 on 6 targets.
- Miami’s offense is a wasteland for Fantasy right now outside of Jarvis Landry.
- Chris Hogan might be the most consistent WR in Fantasy right now.
- Dion Lewis is carving out a bigger role for himself in the Patriots backfield.
- If Bilal Powell sits out this week, I would fire up Elijah McGuire. The Patriots are allowing 124.5 yards per game to opposing RBs.
- Josh McCown could be a solid cheap option in DFS this week.
- I can see Austin Sefarian Jenkins finishing the year as a Top 8 TE.
- Dak Prescott is putting together quite the stat line.
- Cole Beasley has that 2 TD game just about every year.
- The Giants were loaded at WR to start the year and are now relying on a guy named Roger Lewis as their WR1.
- Evan Engram should see his targets go up despite the 0 he put up in week 5.
- The Eagles pass game has Carson Wentz sitting as a Top 5 QB.
- Alshon Jeffery isn’t making the splash I would have expected in Philly.
- Zach Ertz is the most consistent Tight End this year and it isn’t close.
- Kirk Cousins will look to beat his former, and maybe future Coach, this week.
- I sure hope Jamison Crowder used the bye to remember he’s good at football.
- Will Fuller has 4 TDs on 6 catches in his young season.
- Coaches might figure out how to stop Deshaun Watson in 2018 but he is going to rack up some points in 2017.
- The Mack Daddy will make you Jump Jump to your waiver wire to get Marlon Mack this week.
- TY Hilton is a monster waiting to happen. The guy goes off every few weeks.
- The Jaguars are your classic old school Running and Defense team. That should be the only 2 Jags starting in Fantasy each week too…the RB and the Defense.
- Leonard Fournette is still the best RB in this class in my opinion.
- Tennessee is not a good place for Fantasy right now.
- Julio Jones had a week to rest. That should be bad news for the Dolphins.
- I’m almost ready to admit that Devin Funchess can play a little. Almost.
- Ed Dickson is going to be less of a one-game wonder than people think. We’ve seen what he’s capable of now.
- Turns out Cam Newton didn’t lose his skill overnight.
- New Orleans was never a good fit for Adrian Peterson.
- Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara should have clearly defined roles now. Kamara will be the more consistent guy from week to week with his floor of 4 or 5 receptions.
- Willie Snead is reportedly 100% coming out of the bye. He was a preseason sleeper and may be unowned in your leagues.
- CJ Anderson should get plenty of carries against the Giants.
- Kareem Hunt has gone over 100 yards from scrimmage in every game of his career.
- No one expected a 13th-year breakout from Alex Smith. A little competition goes a long way.
- Hunter Henry has 2 games of 0 targets and has either a TD or 80 yards receiving in his other 3 games. If you like gambling, he’s your guy.
- Melvin Gordon should build on his strong performance this week at Oakland.
- Keenan Allen averages a little over 10 targets per week which gives him a very safe floor.
- Seth Roberts has 122 yards receiving and is owned in 0% of Yahoo Leagues. Amari Cooper was drafted in the 2nd round of most drafts and has 118 receiving yards.
- Marshawn Lynch isn’t having the storybook season that Raiders fans were hoping for.
- Derek Carr healed really fast and should get into a shootout with Philip Rivers this Sunday.
- The trade to Arizona should give Adrian Peterson the chance to see if he can still be a lead back. I’m not expecting much but he should be better than what they’ve had.
- While Carson Palmer looks like he’s at the end of his career, he is not going down without a lot of passing yards.
- The Cardinals have 3 WRs not named Larry that can get you serious points on any given week.
- Sammy Watkins is frustrating to own. He has another tough matchup this week.
- Todd Gurley should bounce back big against the Jaguars run D.
- Jared Goff will be a sit this week in his matchup with Jacksonville.
- Carlos Hyde’s apparent benching for several quarters is concerning.
- Pierre Garcon is as steady as ever.
- Keep an eye on George Kittle at Tight End.
- Jimmy Graham has put together 3 games in a row of 10 points or more in a ppr.
- Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls did not give us any clarity on the RB situation in Seattle.
- There is so much parity in Fantasy Football right now. The team with Hunt or Gurley is 5-0 in your league and everyone else is just kind of there.
That will do it for Week 5. As always I’m your Sweet Fantasy.
