Week 3 Thursday Night Preview Redskins at Giants

Chris Sweet – Senior Fantasy Analyst: The Wagner Wire

Hey there Fantasy freaks, Your Sweet Fantasy is bringing you a quick look at tonight’s game between the Redskins and Giants for Season Long Fantasy and DFS purposes. I’m going to start off by saying I don’t love this game for DFS purposes but if you get in a contest that includes tonight’s game fading the game entirely may be the best bet as the Thursday Night guys usually have high ownership and if it’s a stinker of a game that will benefit you.

Washington Redskins

Must Plays:

Jordan Reed – Tight End

J.Reed

I don’t know that there is a must start for the Redskins in tonight’s game but a good option at TE in all formats is Jordan Reed. I know the Cheif Fantasy Analyst: Adam Wagner, really likes Reed in this game. Jordan Reed has shown that when he is healthy he produces Top Ten numbers at his position. If you must start a player from tonight’s game in daily he’s not a bad option at all for cash games and tournament play.

Flex Plays

Alfred Morris & Matt Jones – Running Backs

After 2 weeks it’s pretty apparent this is going to be a timeshare and so far almost an even split between the veteran Morris and the exciting Rookie Matt Jones. Both of these guys I think should be considered flex plays or low end RB2 for tonight’s game. In tournament plays for daily Matt Jones would be the guy to target although his ownership will be a tad higher than last week. My opinion is to fade both though in daily.

Pierre Garcon – Wide Receiver

Garcon is the guy in Washington while Desean Jackson is out. He should be a WR3 or flex play with decent upside tonight in a game they could be trailing in. I wouldn’t recommend him as much more than a flyer for tournaments in daily leagues.

Deep Shots

Kirk Cousins – Quarterback

Cousins

Kirk Cousins has appeared to be more of a game manager this year that the gunslinger he has been in the past. There are going to be some games where the Redskins get behind and he is going to have to throw to keep them in the game. Unfortunately for Captain Kirk he has had his worst games against the Giants. In 2 starts against New York he has 1 TD and 6 INTs. So only start him as the deepest of flyers tonight in tournaments as the price is right but the product isn’t.

Ryan Grant – Wide Receiver

You want a minimum priced low owned guy for your tournament with a chance to break out? Well don’t expect too much from Grant but he’s the guy that could catch a long TD if the Skins are throwing from behind.

New York Giants

Must Starts

Eli Manning – Quarterback

Eli is 15-6 in his career against Washington and is coming off two of his best games against them in his career. In 2014 he threw for 550 yards and 7 TDs with only 1 INT and even added a rushing TD to boot. Don’t count on another rushing TD but expect the Giants to throw in this game as the Redskins have proven that running on them can be futile so far in 2015. He is a good start in season long and not a bad play in Cash games for Daily.

Odell Beckham Jr – Wide Receiver

OBJ is the only true must start in this game for traditional leagues as well as the best bet for DFS  for Cash Games and Tournaments. I mentioned at the top of this installment that with this being on Thursday Night Football game, his ownership could be much higher than in a normal week. That being said he warrants the high ownership.

Flex Plays

Larry Donnell – Tight End

Larry Donnell had a pretty good 2014 in season – long leagues but hasn’t really warranted being picked up in a lot of leagues this year. I’m putting him in this section for lack of better options as he is probably more of a deep shot but he had a 3 TD game against Washington last year so he is well worth his low price in daily and if you need to spot start someone in season long leagues you could do a lot worse than LD.

Shane Vereen – Running Back

I like Shane Vereen as a better option at Running Back than Jennings for tonight’s game because of the receptions especially for ppr leagues and for DraftKings with their PPR scoring. He had 8 catches last week and with Washington being tough against the run could repeat that performance tonight. Flex play in traditional – season leagues and a decent cash game play for daily.

Deep Shots

Reuben Randle – Wide Receiver

Reuben Randle should be better than a deep shot at this point in his career but he has never been able to take advantage of his opportunities. Preston Parker who saw way too many targets against the Falcons was cut this week so the opportunity arises again for Randle to do something in this game. He should only be considered a shot in the dark in daily games.
